Our Philosophy in Action
Our philosophy is not simply something written in a document. It guides the everyday decisions we make with and for children.
We believe children are capable, curious and resourceful learners with their own ideas, perspectives and ways of understanding the world.
At Norman Park, this means children have long periods of uninterrupted play; opportunities to move freely between indoor and outdoor environments; access to real tools, materials and meaningful tasks; regular experiences in nature; opportunities for challenge and considered risk; and educators who listen carefully to children's ideas and build learning alongside them.
Children's voices help shape our curriculum and our kindergarten community.
We also recognise that learning encompasses the whole child. Through play, children are developing relationships, communication, creativity, physical skills, independence, emotional regulation, problem-solving, confidence and dispositions for lifelong learning.
Our role is not to hurry childhood, but to create an environment in which children have the time, relationships, opportunities and support they need to flourish.
Acknowledgment to Country: Kookaburras group
Thank you to the Jagera people, you made the land good. Now it's our turn to look after the grass, trees, flowers and air.
We need to show to the Jagera people that we are keeping the land clean for ourselves and them.
Acknowledgement to Country: Lorikeets group
Thank you to the Jagera people for looking after the land for us, before we were born. For taking care of this land and growing our land.
We will help and be kind and nice to the people, the animals, the birds, the bugs, the trees and plants and sun.
Thank you for our country, thank you for our world.
