Our Community
A kindy that belongs to all of us
Community has been at the heart of Norman Park Kindy since the very beginning.
Our kindergarten was established by local families who came together in 1962 with a shared vision for their children. More than sixty years later, we remain a not-for-profit, community-managed kindergarten, and families continue to play an important part in caring for and shaping the kindy for the children of today and those who will come after them.
When your child joins Norman Park Kindy, your family becomes part of our community too.
We believe this sense of shared belonging is one of the things that makes community kindergarten special.
What does community kindergarten mean?
Norman Park Kindy is not-for-profit and community managed.
Our volunteer Parent Management Committee, elected from our family community each year, works in partnership with our staff and with the support of Lady Gowrie Queensland to govern and support the kindergarten.
This model gives families a meaningful voice in the life and future of their kindergarten while allowing our teachers and educators to lead the educational program as early childhood professionals.
Any funds raised or income received by the kindergarten are directed back into supporting the service, its environment and the experiences we provide for children.
Why this matters
A community kindergarten isn't simply a place families use.
It is a place families help create.
Our history is full of examples of families giving their time, knowledge, skills and energy to make Norman Park Kindy what it is today. That shared stewardship continues with each new generation.
