Community and connection
Celebrating together
Community isn't only about getting jobs done.
It is also about relationships, shared experiences and belonging.
Throughout the year, opportunities for children, families and educators to come together help relationships grow beyond morning drop-off and afternoon collection.
Our community traditions and gatherings — including our Welcome Picnic, Winter Solstice, working bees and other family events — create memories and connections that often extend well beyond the kindergarten year.
Children see their families talking, laughing, working and celebrating together.
They begin to understand:
My family belongs here too.
Connecting with our wider community
Children's sense of community extends beyond our kindergarten gate.
Our relationships with local people, organisations and places create opportunities for children to understand themselves as members of a wider community.
Our neighbouring bush and parkland, community partnerships, local events and relationships with people who share their knowledge, culture, skills and stories all enrich children's experiences.
These relationships also help children understand that learning doesn't exist only inside a kindergarten.
We learn with and from the people and places around us.
Families as partners
Family participation is about more than volunteering.
Families know their children in ways we never could without them.
We value the knowledge families bring about their child's personality, culture, relationships, strengths, interests, experiences and needs. This knowledge helps educators understand children more deeply and supports genuine continuity between home and kindy.
Partnership means listening to one another, sharing perspectives and recognising that families and educators bring different but equally important knowledge to a child's kindergarten journey.
Every family adds something
Norman Park Kindy exists today because generations of families before us cared enough to contribute.
Some built.
Some planted.
Some fundraised.
Some governed.
Some shared their knowledge.
Some turned up with a paintbrush, cooked something, fixed something, washed something or simply asked:
“How can I help?”
Our kindergarten will continue to evolve because new families will bring new ideas, skills, cultures, perspectives and possibilities.
You don't have to contribute in the same way as anyone else.
But when you join Norman Park Kindy, we invite you to find your way to be part of it.
Every family who joins our community becomes part of the story — and helps care for what comes next.
