Our Commitment to Children

Every child who comes through our gate has the right to feel safe, respected, valued, included and heard.

Our commitment to children extends beyond meeting legislative and regulatory requirements. Children's rights, dignity, agency and best interests inform the decisions we make and the way we approach everyday practice.

At Norman Park, this means we:

  • listen to children's ideas, perspectives and concerns;

  • recognise children as capable participants in decisions that affect them;

  • build relationships based on trust, respect and connection;

  • protect children's privacy and dignity;

  • create inclusive and culturally safe environments;

  • provide opportunities for play, exploration, challenge and appropriate risk;

  • support children as they develop the skills to communicate, regulate emotions, negotiate relationships and understand the perspectives of others; and

  • continually reflect on our practices through the question: Why does this matter for children?

Children's rights are therefore not a separate part of our program. They are woven through the way we teach, communicate, document learning, design environments and build relationships.

Throughout this website, you will hear children's voices and see examples of these principles in practice.

Acknowledgment to Country: Kookaburras group

Thank you to the Jagera people, you made the land good. Now it's our turn to look after the grass, trees, flowers and air.
We need to show to the Jagera people that we are keeping the land clean for ourselves and them.

Acknowledgement to Country: Lorikeets group

Thank you to the Jagera people for looking after the land for us, before we were born. For taking care of this land and growing our land.

We will help and be kind and nice to the people, the animals, the birds, the bugs, the trees and plants and sun.

Thank you for our country, thank you for our world.
