Enrolments
Beginning your kindy journey
Choosing a kindergarten is an important decision for your family.
We encourage prospective families to learn about our philosophy, visit our kindergarten at our annual Open Day in May and ask questions so you can decide whether Norman Park Kindy feels like the right place for your child and family.
Our enrolment process is designed to help families understand not only the practical details of kindergarten, but also the community they are choosing to join.
What is Kindergarten?
In Queensland, kindergarten — or kindy — is the year before children start Prep.
Children are generally eligible to attend an approved kindergarten program if they are 4 years old by 30 June in the year they attend kindy.
Approved kindergarten programs are play-based, delivered by qualified early childhood teachers and designed to support children's learning, development and wellbeing.
At Norman Park Kindy, we see the kindergarten year as much more than preparation for school.
It is an important year of childhood in its own right — a time for children to build relationships, develop confidence and independence, explore their ideas, experience challenge and discovery, and strengthen the foundations for lifelong learning.
Not sure which year your child is eligible?
Visit the Queensland Government Kindy Age Calculator or contact us and we will be happy to help.
Our Kindergarten Groups
Norman Park is a one-unit kindergarten with two groups across the week offered during the school term. There is no kindy program during school holidays.
Kookaburras
Attend Monday to Wednesday, 8.30am to 2.30pm
Lorikeets
Attend Thursday and Friday, 7.54am to 3.30pm
Only one group of twenty-five children attends the kindergarten at any one time.
This one-unit structure supports the close-knit environment that is such an important part of Norman Park Kindy. Children become deeply familiar with their environment, teaching team and peers, while families become part of a connected kindergarten community.
