Norman Park Community Kindergarten (NPCK) is seeking an experienced, dedicated and qualified part-time Early Childhood Teacher/Nominated Supervisor to commence January 2021. Ideally, the role will also include Educational Leader duties or an interest in development to progress to the service’s Educational Leader. This role will require the successful applicant to work on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays on a 12-month contract with the possibility of permanency.

 

NPCK is a not-for-profit organisation managed by a committee of parents and affiliated with The Gowrie (QLD) Inc. The Kindergarten is a one unit service with high educator to child ratios (3:25) and offers before and after care (‘kindy club’) to families who require it. In 2019 the Kindergarten was rated Exceeding in six out of the seven quality areas.

 

As well as following the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines and the Early Years Learning Framework, our program proudly follows the principles of Forest School which includes fortnightly bush excursions, tool use (including fire) and exploring risky play and safety. Relationships are at the heart of our philosophy, which views children as capable, competent and eager to learn. We foster children’s learning and development through our child led, play based, open indoor/outdoor program. Our philosophy also includes promoting a positive culture, a professional learning environment and encouraging continuous improvement. Being a community Kindergarten, strong connections with families, staff and the community are integral to our values.

 

Position responsibilities include those outlined in the Position Description, incorporating:

  • Facilitating the delivery of a high quality and inclusive educational program promoting the NPCK philosophy and based on the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines;

  • Strong and supportive relationships between children, families and staff based on open and responsive communication;

  • Working within a positive, strong and collaborative professional team;

  • Facilitating meaningful parent participation in all aspects of service provision;

  • Promoting and connecting the Kindergarten within the local and broader community; and

  • Active participation in meetings, professional development and service events.

 

Essential requirements:

 

  • Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) 4 year trained or equivalent;

  • An ability to advocate for children and play based learning;

  • Registration with Queensland College of Teachers;

  • Working with children Suitability Card or Exemption Card;

  • Senior First Aid/CPR/Asthma and Anaphylaxis training;

  • Familiarity and experience working with the National Quality Framework;

  • A strong understanding of the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines and the Early Years Learning Framework;

  • Experience in Kindergarten settings;

  • A genuine interest in developing meaningful connections with families, staff and the wider community; 

  • Evidence of strong leadership, excellent communication and management skills; and

  • An ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

 

In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience or interest/knowledge in:

  • The role of the Educational Leader;

  • Documentation and planning with Storypark;

  • Nature play and/or Forest School learning and philosophy;

  • Circle of Security program; and

  • THRASS system as part of a literacy pedagogy; and
